Equinox Hudson Yards: gain or drain?

As one of the premier fitness destinations in New York City and the flagship location, Equinox Hudson Yards offers a luxurious gym experience with state-of-the-art facilities, personal training, and a host of exclusive amenities. Indoor and outdoor pools? Check. Sauna and steam rooms? Check. Cold plunge overlooking the Vessel? Check.

But is the Equinox Hudson Yards membership worth the hefty price tag? With initiation fees, monthly dues, and additional costs for personal training and classes, the total investment can quickly add up to a significant sum. We’re talking easily $5000+ in your first year.

Let’s cover what exactly you get with the Hudson Yards membership. First things first, you get access to every Equinox location, except for the Hamptons pop up and Equinox E. With 100+ locations worldwide, that’s a ton of access. If you travel frequently or live across cities, being able to hit your home gym can be a huge help for keeping up your routines. Outside of New York, our favorite locations are Brickell in Miami and Kensington in London.

Each Equinox location is fully equipped with everything you need to workout - plus a lot more. If you are early in your fitness journey or if you need some extra motivation, there are a wide range of fitness classes available. You can find everything from HIIT classes that rival Barry’s Bootcamp to meditative Restorative Yoga.

The benefits are always evolving but there are always additional perks that are specific to Hudson Yards members. Some examples we’ve seen:

  • Frequent discounts, such as nearly-free bookings at ReServe Padel

  • Pop up events, such as poolside mixers with Zero Bond

  • Yoga classes at the Edge

  • Free Dorsia membership

  • Blade airport helicopter ride discounts

Now let’s talk about the downsides. Equinox Hudson Yards is huge for New York City, but it’s still Manhattan. It can get pretty crowded - especially during peak times - and the popular classes fill up fast. When you’re paying such a premium, you want to always be able to take advantage of your membership. And if you don’t live or work nearby, paying extra for the Hudson Yards location likely just isn’t worth it.

For many, the value of an Equinox membership goes far beyond access to a gym—it's an investment in their health, well-being, and overall lifestyle. We tend to think that your health is your best investment and if joining Equinox helps you build healthy habits, we are all for it. So, yes, Equinox Hudson yards is worth it for us but we recommend seriously considering your lifestyle before you get a membership.
