We drank AG1 every day for 6 months—here are our honest thoughts

In the world of health and wellness, Athletic Greens’ AG1 has become something of a phenomenon. Marketed as an all-in-one nutritional supplement, AG1 claims to provide comprehensive daily nutrition with a blend of vitamins, minerals, probiotics, and more—all in a single scoop. With promises of improved energy, better digestion, and overall well-being, it’s easy to see why so many people are giving it a try. Plus, it’s repeatedly recommended by notable members of the fitness and wellness community like podcaster Andrew Huberman. But after drinking AG1 every day for six months, we’re here to share our honest thoughts on whether it’s worth the hype.

What is AG1?

AG1 is a powdered green supplement designed to replace a multitude of vitamins, minerals and probiotics in your daily routine. The idea is simple: mix one scoop of AG1 with water, drink it first thing in the morning, and you’re set for the day with all the nutrients your body needs. AG1 claims to support everything from energy levels to gut health, immunity, and overall wellness, making it an attractive option for those looking to streamline their supplement routine.

First off, it’s an acquired taste

Let’s talk taste—because, after all, you’re drinking this stuff every day. AG1’s flavor is, well, green. It has a grassy, slightly sweet taste with a bit of a chalky finish. At first, it can be a bit off-putting, especially if you’re not used to green drinks. However, over time, we found that we got used to it, and some of us even began to enjoy it—though others never quite warmed up to the flavor.

The benefits: convenience and hydration

One of the most significant benefits of AG1 is its convenience. If you’re someone who struggles to remember to take multiple supplements, AG1 offers a simple, all-in-one solution. It’s easy to mix up, and knowing that you’ve covered your nutritional bases for the day can give you peace of mind. You can also get it in travel packs so you can take them on-the-go. We know that habits are easiest to build when they’re easy to adopt, so we used travel packs at home so we didn’t have to measure out the right dose every day. (You can read our article on how to hack your habits here.)

Another benefit we noticed was how it encouraged us to start the day with a glass of water. Drinking AG1 first thing in the morning got us into the habit of staying hydrated, which is crucial for overall health. But here’s where things get a bit tricky: while AG1 might be providing some benefits, it’s hard to say how much of the improvement is due to the supplement itself versus the simple act of drinking more water every morning. Staying hydrated has its own set of health benefits, so it’s possible that some of the positive effects we experienced like increased energy could be attributed to this new hydration habit rather than the AG1 formula.

The issues: batch variability and side effects

While there are some upsides to AG1, we also encountered a few issues that gave us pause. Over the six months, we noticed a surprising variability between batches. On two occasions, we received batches that didn’t quite live up to expectations. One batch had a taste that was noticeably off, almost stale, making it hard to get down. Another batch caused stomach issues for a couple of us, which was unexpected and concerning.

Customer service was very quick to respond in sending us new batches, but this only helped so much. These inconsistencies made us question the product’s quality control. When you’re consuming something daily for your health, you want to trust that it’s consistent and safe. Unfortunately, our experience with AG1 wasn’t as reliable as we had hoped.

Is it really a good deal?

AG1 is marketed as a cost-effective solution because it aims to replace multiple supplements—like vitamins, minerals, and probiotics—with a single, convenient product. On the surface, this seems like a great deal, especially if you’re already spending money on several different supplements. But at around $99 per month, AG1 is definitely an investment.

For that price, you’re getting a product that claims to cover all your nutritional bases, which could be appealing if it saves you from buying multiple products. However, considering the variability in our experience with the product’s quality, we’re not sure it’s the best value. You could potentially achieve the same benefits by choosing a high-quality multivitamin and a separate probiotic for less money and with more consistency. We tend to think health is an important area to not cut costs though, so if it works for you we encourage you to invest in your body.

The verdict: is AG1 worth it?

So, after six months of daily AG1 consumption, where do we stand? While AG1 might offer some convenience and could be beneficial as part of a morning routine, especially if it helps you stay hydrated, we’re not convinced it’s the game-changer it’s marketed to be. The taste is something you’ll have to get used to, and the variability in quality between batches raises some red flags.

In the end, our honest opinion is that you can probably skip this one. There are other, more consistent ways to ensure you’re getting your daily nutrients and staying hydrated—whether that’s through a balanced diet, a good-quality multivitamin, or simply starting your day with a big glass of water. AG1 might work for some, but for us, the benefits didn’t outweigh the downsides.

If you’re curious and want to give AG1 a try, go ahead, but know that it’s not the miracle supplement it’s sometimes made out to be.
